Derrick May – Official App

Stay up to date with Derrick May’s latest events, news, gallery and videos. This app works on an iPhone and iPod touch with a connection to the Internet.

If one name crops up again and again in discussions of Techno, it is that of Derrick “Mayday” May. Alongside Atkins, Juan, Craig, Carl and Saunderson, Kevin, May is regarded as one of the kings of the Detroit sound. Inspired by Yello and Kraftwerk, he began to make electronic music with Atkins and Saunderson while studying with them at Belleville High, Detroit. Recording either as Mayday or Rhythim Is Rhythim (occasionally in conjunction with Carl Craig) and generally on his own Transmat Records label, he went on to carve out a new vein in dance music that synthesized the advances of the electro movement with the more challenging end of the House movement – a music that defined “Techno”. Early cuts such as “Nude Photo” (co-written with Thomas Barnett) and “The Dance”, both on Transmat, were inspirational to many. However, it was the release of “Strings Of Life” in 1987 (co-written with Michael James) with its wide appeal to the house music fans of the 80s & 90s, simultaneously brought May his deserved acclaim and Detroit Techno to European club-goers.

Ripperton was born in the 70′s, one of the most exciting times in music, which would explain his passion for soul music, his 12 inch vinyl collection which knows no bounds and his nickname, (think of one of the best female soul singers of that time). He gained outstanding popularity with his project Lazy Fat People that was signed to labels like Border Community, Wagon Repair and Carl Craig’s Planet E, as well as new successes as a solo artist known as Ripperton.

Aka Ripperton, he’s enjoyed working in the studio with fellow Swiss producers, such as Sthlm Audio and Plak Records. He’s also released tracks on MusicMan, Green, CLR, Systematic , Liebe Detail, Connaisseur, Caravan, Dessous and many more top labels, and delivered remixes for Ellen Allien, Jimspter, Laurent Garnier, Beanfield and the exceptional Radiohead. Very popular with artists such as Steve Bug, Carl Craig, James Holden, Apparat, Osunlade, Joris Voorn in their compilations over the last few years.

In 2006 he started the well-known underground label, Perspectiv Records, which brought out some fresh talent from Switzerland and around the world and nurtured some interesting interactions with amazing producer like Tobias, DJ Koze, John Daly and Isolée, all highly respected by Raphaël.

His long-awaited LP was out early 2010. Called “Niwa”, this modern piece of music mixes different kinds of sounds from varied horizons and was released on the Dutch ‘Green’ label owned by friends Joris Voorn & Edwin Oosterwal. In 2011 he teams up with Deetron on a new project
and works on his new album coming soon.Touring around the world the last decade, Ripperton spins the melodic and lush end of House, Minimal & Techno. Definitively one of the most creative Swiss DJs of today, Ripperton is a perfect electronic music chameleon.

Graeme Park – Official App

Stay up to date with DJ Graeme Park’s latest events, news, gallery and videos. This app works on an iPhone and iPod touch and requires a connection to the Internet.

The story of DJ Graeme Park really mirrors the story of the evolution of dance music and club culture itself. Graeme found himself working in a Nottingham record shop called Select-A-Disc in the early 1980s, when the very first house records began to filter through from Chicago, Detroit and New York. When the shop’s owner also opened a nightclub, it was only natural he should turn to Graeme to select the discs. Determined to showcase this new style of music, his reputation as a house pioneer soon brought him to the attention of Mike Pickering at the Hacienda in Manchester, who asked him to cover for him whilst he went on holiday in 1988. Simply put, there was no-one else in the country who could do the job. The Summer of Love followed, and Parky quickly became one of the biggest names on the emerging dance scene. Aside from his eight-year residency at the Hac, he was the first British DJ to play places like Australia, South America, the USA, Asia and beyond as well as producing and remixing tracks for the dancefloor.
